ADDC announces winners of its first-ever ‘Innovative Transformation’ competitions

Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Power Corporation, concluded a series of creative workshops and panel discussions for its employees as part of the company’s engagement during UAE Innovation Month 2020, which runs through the month of February and is designed to strengthen the nation’s position as a global hub for innovation. ADDC’s program of activities took place during the Innovation Month’s opening week, 2–6 February, under the theme of ‘Innovative Transformation’. The program of activities were held at the headquarters of fellow ADPower subsidiary, Emirates Water and Electricity Company, and included a visit by Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, who delivered an inspirational speech about the positive impact of innovation on business and society.

As part of its Innovation Month engagement, ADDC announced an exclusive Innovation Challenge, which invited ADDC employees to produce a relevant, implementable innovation that would help optimize one of the company’s functions or services, as well as strengthen the company’s role in advancing the innovation agenda set out in UAE Vision 2021. An expert judging panel comprised of ADDC’s Strategic Transformation team selected “Robert Reyes”, “Nikil Hari Parayath” and “Mohammed Sayed Hassan” for presenting ideas that were the most aligned to the company’s current innovation focus areas.

Speaking at the event, H.E. Saeed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of ADDC, said: “It is important for our team members to constantly adopt an innovation mindset in order to support the UAE’s journey towards a knowledge-based economy. With this objective in mind, ADDC organized a number of events during UAE Innovation Month to educate and inspire industry professionals and empower them to develop creative ideas that will shape our business and our society. ADDC’s ‘Innovative Transformation’ programming is designed to equip our employees with the tools, knowledge and leadership skills needed to excel in their field and beyond – while also nurturing the next generation of Emirati talent.”

Throughout the week, ADDC highlighted six unique projects underway across the organization, including Tarsheed, a strategic program that aims to reduce 20% of Abu Dhabi's water and electricity consumption by 2030. Tarsheed was established to constructively raise customers’ awareness of their water and electricity consumption levels and help them make more informed decisions regarding the efficient and sustainable use of resources.

In a broader innovative effort, Abu Dhabi Power Corporation announced, earlier this month, that it has submitted an offer to Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), whereby ADPower would transfer the majority of its water and electricity assets to TAQA, including Abu Dhabi Distribution Company. The proposed transaction, if accepted and approved by the TAQA board and regulatory authorities, would create a combined entity that becomes one of the largest utilities companies in the GCC, a top-10 integrated utilities player in the EMEA region by regulated assets, and the third-largest company listed on the Abu Dhabi Exchange.
