Ms. Naday Zuhair, nutrition expert and Head of Nutrition Department of Tawam Hospital, stressed the importance of healthy food and exercise to protect our health. Speaking in a presentation on Thursday, April 2, 2015, Zuahir said that obesity is the prime cause behind almost all health problems we are facing today; therefor we have to fight it using all the available means, the first of which is eating healthy food and doing exercises on regular basis.

We have to follow the Healthy Eating Plate, which puts vegetables and fruits at the top followed by dairy products and protein and finally sugar besides exercising, particularly walking, on daily basis. Contrary to many people believe, skipping some meals makes our body accumulates more extra fat as compensation that will end up with individual eating more in other meals a matter that causes fatness. Fruits are full of fibers and it is recommended to eat them as whole because fruit juice increasing blood sugar rabidly, she said. It is advisable to drink 8 cups of water, at least, per day. She also spoke about a number of unhealthy foods that include sugar and saturated fat pointing out that one cup of carbonated drink per day increases the risk of diabetics for a child by 60 per cent. Zuhair the stressed the importance of getting information about healthy food from competent professional people as people are not identical and everybody has its special requirements. Over-consumption of food causes many of the health problems we are facing today and if we need to live a healthy life we have to eat less and practice more, she concluded. The presentation was a part of “Green Offices” campaign, Your Health before Work week, organized by the company with the ultimate objective of improving the work environment and reducing the environment footprint of its premises.
